We are
currently selling pasture-raised chickens. At Fair Food Farm, we raise meat chickens according to the standards established by the French Label Rouge program (https://attra.ncat.org/attra-pub/labelrouge.html). Our chicks come from a hatchery in Pennsylvania that specializes in breeding chickens to forage well on pasture, with genetics imported from France. We feed locally milled, non-medicated grain, and do not use coccidiostats or any other medications or vaccinations. Chicks live in the barn for 3-5 weeks, enjoying grass clippings and cull veggies, before moving outside onto pasture. The flocks are housed in portable shelters enclosed with poultry fence, and are moved to fresh grass every 2 days. They scratch for grit, peck worms, pick grass, enjoy cull organic vegetables, and behave as happy, healthy, young chickens loving their free-ranging life on pasture. We process chickens at 10-12 weeks of age, resulting in a dressed weight of 4 - 7 lbs. We are including giblets in the cavity this year, per customer requests.
Your chickens may be picked up anytime. If you plan to buy 5 or more, call ahead in case we don't have enough out in the sales freezer. |
